Who we are

An Independent Human Rights Organization

The International Organization for Human Rights and Refugee Affairs (IOHR)

The International Organization for Human Rights and Refugee Affairs is one of the organizations affiliated with the United Organizations UO. It is an international non-profit and non-governmental organization licensed in the United States of America. The organization is dedicated to protecting human rights and freedoms, defending the rights of refugees, and ensuring their right to return to their homelands or integrate into host communities in accordance with international human rights and refugee law. The organization embodies the commitment of the international community to promoting and protecting all rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The organization addresses the humanitarian and developmental challenges faced by poor and vulnerable communities around the world. It initially began by supporting children affected by crises and disasters, then expanded its work to cover multiple sectors including education, healthcare, water and sanitation, food security, economic empowerment, child welfare, social care, and community coexistence. Over the past three years, the organization has spent more than $29 million on humanitarian and development projects that have benefited over 100,000 people worldwide.

The organization also works to provide various forms of humanitarian support through its teams operating across Arab countries, striving to achieve the noble goals of the parent organization.

“Eradicating poverty is not an act of charity, but an act of justice.”

From an internal speech of the organization

Why Do We Exist?

Because access to justice and essential services is not available to everyone. We work to bridge this gap through legal protection, education and empowerment, and humanitarian responses that uphold human dignity, in partnership with local actors.

A Broad Impact
The Founding Story

The story began with a personal commitment to human dignity and the right to safety and equitable access to essential services. What started as volunteer work evolved into an institutional framework that integrates legal protection, education, relief, and empowerment, while placing accountability and transparency at the core of every intervention.

From a Small Initiative to a Broad Impact

IOHR began as a community initiative rooted in the values of justice and equality, and has since grown into an international organization working alongside partners, academic institutions, and United Nations bodies.

Addressing Multiple Crises

We developed case management systems based on clear standards, launched flexible learning centers, and implemented carefully monitored cash assistance programs — all integrated within transparent governance and trusted partnerships to ensure measurable and sustainable impact.

“Every human being deserves a safe path to dignity. We started with this belief, and we continue to work for it.”

Mission

A world where the dignity of every human being is protected without discrimination, and where refugees and displaced people are able to fully enjoy their rights and access justice, essential services, and opportunities for a dignified life. We envision a future in which humanitarian responses are managed according to strict human rights standards, transforming protection from an exceptional measure into an institutionalized practice embedded within education, healthcare, justice, and employment systems.

Our vision extends to fostering host communities that are more capable of integration, removing barriers to civil documentation, education, and employment, and institutionalizing safe pathways for asylum, family reunification, and the prevention of forced return. It also includes the development of open data platforms that respect privacy and support informed decision-making.

We further aspire to create secure digital environments that enable remote access to information and services, while utilizing technology to protect witnesses and survivors and document violations in accordance with legal standards.

Non-Negotiable Commitments & Principles

  • Do no harm, child protection, and strict safety and inclusion policies, including the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse.
  • Privacy and data protection through encryption, secure storage, precise access controls, informed consent, and independent grievance mechanisms.
  • A rights-based approach and accountability to affected populations (AAP), with community participation throughout all stages of the program cycle.
  • Integration of gender and disability inclusion, along with linguistic, physical, and digital accessibility standards.
  • Transparency through publishing reports and key performance indicators, while adhering to donor requirements and international standards.
