Official Statement:
Dr. Majed Al-Rukbi – High Commissioner for the Middle East and North Africa, International Organization for Human Rights and Refugee Affairs (IOHR):
“In light of the escalating environmental and humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the rural areas of Latakia and the Syrian coast due to the ongoing waves of wildfires, we at the International Organization for Human Rights and Refugee Affairs, in cooperation with our partners from international organizations, the International Aviation Services Organization (IASO), the International Health Organization, and our dedicated field teams on the ground, hereby declare our full readiness to launch the emergency campaign #Nafas – #Your_Right_to_Life. This urgent initiative aims to provide immediate relief and humanitarian support to the affected communities and to stand with the firefighting and rescue teams working tirelessly in the disaster zones.”
“We have prepared trained field teams equipped with essential tools, and we are currently finalizing logistical readiness through close coordination with relevant authorities to ensure an effective and rapid humanitarian response on the ground. We firmly believe that the right to life is a sacred human right, and we cannot remain silent in the face of the cries for help from our affected brothers and sisters.”
To our people in rural Latakia:
“We know this ordeal is harsh, and that the flames have not only consumed trees but also homes and cherished memories. We are with you, and we will soon be among you. We carry with us what support and solidarity we can provide, but above all, we carry our humanity and our unwavering commitment to you. You are not alone… #Nafas is coming to bring you hope, to defend your right to life, and to give back, even in part, to a people who remain steadfast despite all circumstances.”
Our hearts are with you, and very soon we will be by your side in the field.
